Emma's answers to Son's speech
Question
At my wedding, I will be given away by my eight-year-old son, Thomas. The best man is my 6-year-old son, George. They are both happy to give a speech and I wondered if you could give me some ideas as to what they could say. They are both lively little boys - with a good sense of humour!
Answer
How wonderful that both your sons are involved with your wedding. When it comes to speeches the basic outline is to thank everyone for coming, say how pretty the bride and bridesmaids look and make a toast to the bride and groom.
It might be a great idea for them to give the speech together - they could even read a special poem or rhyme that they like and think best describes how they feel. Visit the local library, let them select a few poetry books and then choose a poem together as a family.
One other thing that you might like to consider is asking an older person, a family member or friend to help them out, to write down their ideas and convert it into a short speech. It might be an idea to ask them to be there for your sons on the day as support and help if they need it.
I'm sure that whatever they say it will be received with a warm welcome and quite possibly a few teary eyes!
