Emma's answers to Remembering parents
Question
Both my parents have passed away and I was wondering if it would be acceptable for us to have two empty places with flowers on the top table as a mark of respect, as we would like to remember them on our big day.
Answer
Remembering your parents on your wedding day is a lovely idea, however I'm not sure that setting two places on the top table and leaving them empty is the best idea.
This could be upsetting for you when you're sitting beside empty places, and your parents wouldn't want that. Why not have a word with the vicar who is marrying you and ask if he can say a few words during the service and perhaps a reading, to let them know you're always thinking of them and you love them.
At the reception, ask anyone who is doing a speech to mention them and even raise a toast to absent friends? You might like to make a montage of photos of you and your partner, alongside photos of your parents and his parents.
