The National Wedding Show gained momentum last weekend and the Confetti team were there along with thousands of brides at the grand hall of London Olympia. Stalls filled with stylish stationery and ornate cakes, booths of vibrant flowers, and racks of gorgeous wedding dresses lined the walkways. The excitement was palpable, like electricity in the air.
Here are some of the highlights of the show:
All across the hall were displays of bridal dresses and accessories, including popular designs inspired by the fashions of the first half of the 20th century: sleek satin gowns like those from the Roaring Twenties, 1950’s tea length dresses, decorated fishtails and vintage lace sleeves. All were complemented by sweeping veils and ornate tiaras, and brides could grab a bargain with the exclusive show prices.
The catwalk was the jewel of the day, perfectly planned and executed. The dresses and accessories—both vintage and chic, traditional and retro were beautiful to behold and expertly created by some of the most prestigious designer names. Mother-of-the-bride and menswear also made their mark, accompanied by superb music and choreography.
Some of the finest wedding suppliers in Britain were at the show to give advice and exhibit their fine ranges of items and services. Brides could try on gowns of their choice and have their hair and makeup professionally styled. Every hour, a specialist demonstration starring a hand-picked member of the audience took place where the lucky bride was given a free makeover.
It seemed like every supplier had something to give away: leaflets, magazines, drink and cake samples, a chance to enter competitions and win grand prizes like honeymoons and must-have accessories. Free goody bags were everywhere, with a selection of items inside from pamphlets to nail varnish and fresh coffee. Our Confetti magazine and Win Your Wedding competition went down a storm.
It really was a fantastic weekend, filled with meeting and greeting brides and suppliers, made even better by the grandeur of the capital. The National Wedding Show is in Manchester next, so don’t forget to look at our list of all wedding shows and fairs across the UK.
