Joanna and Grant Real Engagement Story

Written by    Last updated: August 17, 2006

My boyfriend and I met at university whilst working on an archaeological field project in the Caribbean. He was the project director doing research for his PhD, and I was the little first-year undergraduate doing all the digging. After going out for a year and a half I decided to do some research for my dissertation in the archives in Paris. The only time I could go was in February. I decided that I wanted Grant to come with me to help with the research and to see Paris. He was acting sly the whole time we were there. On Valentine’s Day I gave him a box of chocolates. He kept quiet all day and arranged for us to have dinner near Montmartre. So that evening we got up to the top of the hill looking over Paris, he got down on one knee in front of the Sacre Coeur, got out his grandma’s beautiful 1930s diamond engagement ring, and asked me to marry him!! I said yes and we got drunk together over dinner.
