James and I met over the internet; we would spend hours a day just talking to each other until we felt like we knew each other inside out. The only…

Nova & David started out as friends. Of course, David knew he wanted to marry Nova from the moment they met! Eleven months after the proposal they said “I do” in an intimate ceremony, with their closest friends and family in the bridal party. A string quartet played while they exchanged vows they’d written themselves to celebrate their love and journey together. They also invited along James and Katharine at JK Photography to commemorate their special day in their stunning photographs.
Bride & Groom: Nova, Janet of all trades, founder of a wedding blog Nu Bride, and David, quality assurance
Length of engagement: 11 months. Hubby decided to take me out for a meal as I was having a very difficult time at work and he wanted me to relax and spend some quality time together. Reluctantly I agreed and told him to surprise me. Best decision I ever made! We went for a delicious meal at the Oxo Tower and then for a walk along the embankment (my favourite place in London). It was a calm serene autumn night adorned by fairy lit trees and stars in the sky. We walked along an empty pier and David asked me to marry him… Having been together 5 years at the time and having several missed proposal opportunities, I of course thought he was joking and told him to stop mucking about; and then he asked me again and I saw the ring and I cried!
Wedding date: 3rd November 2012 (year to the date of the proposal)
Wedding ceremony & reception: The Grove, Hertfordshire. we always knew we wanted an intimate, elegant and classy wedding in a beautiful, luxurious setting and we’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for The Grove. The staff were incredibly courteous and the venue fitted our vision and ticked all of our boxes effortlessly. They were also happy to recommend bespoke details to our weddng menu and to our day which was really important for us. We wanted a little touch of our Caribbean heritage reflected in the food and drink too.

Wedding dress by: Madeline Isaac-James. The dress took quite some time to find. After trying on over 50 dresses I was incredibly disheartened and ready to throw in the towel and give up! With my last booking at BOA Boutique, I turned up on a designer day that advised in detail what style of dress would suit my body shape. The dress was actually picked by the consultant as I had said I didn’t want a lace dress… (famous last words!) My dress was a beautiful A-Line shape with Guipure Lace and Swarovski crystal details throughout and a stunningly pleated train by the talented Natalie Gladman of Madeline Isaac James. As soon as I put it on I knew. (Shame it was 100% over budget though LOL!)
First dance song: I Love You I Do by Jennifer Hudson from the movie Dreamgirls – we did a dance routine for our first dance!
