Around the garden

  • Bring tender plants under cover
  • Collect and store seed
  • Net ponds to keep out autumn leaves
  • Give the lawn a final cut and rake over to remove moss
  • Clean and put away tools and machinery
  • Collect fallen leaves and pile them to make leafmould
  • Clear autumn debris to prevent pests and diseases
  • Insulate pots
  • Order seed catalogues
  • Clear out bird boxes and put food out for the birds
  • Check the bonfire heap for hibernating creatures before lighting it
