We are both very excited about the prospect of getting married, but we also want to concentrate on buying a house as soon as possible. We have set ourselves the goal of a wedding with a civil service for under £500.
Do you think this is possible?
AYou can certainly pay for your license and civil ceremony and have over a couple of hundred pounds left. The key is probably to have very few guests, and a simple reception such as drinks and a finger buffet. You could hire a room and even buy sandwiches, canapes etc from a supermarket, or have your reception at home if you can get someone to help you prepare drinks and the buffet. When it comes to your dress, keep an eye out for second hand dresses, or buy a lovely dress (doesn't have to be a 'wedding' dress) from the high street. If you'd like to have a bouquet, buy a bunch of flowers or a single stem from a local flower stall on the morning of the wedding, and look at celebration cakes in supermarkets. Another option is just to take two best friends or just your parents and siblings to the register office as your witnesses, and spend any remaining money on a lovely lunch or dinner for the four so so of you. If you want to do it, you will, and it will be lovely. Kate x
