The breathtaking scenery, the great Mediterranean weather, the rich culture—they all come together to make memories that will last a lifetime.
Greece is one of the most popular wedding destinations in Europe, and the stunning locations play a huge part in that. From mountains and valleys to islands and coastlines, Greece offers a wealth of photo opportunities that will make your celebration even more memorable. It’s an absolutely beautiful place, full of fascinating mythologies; history is as alive today as it was thousands of years ago.
Greece is home to must-see sites, like the Parthenon in the Acropolis of Athens, and the dozens of ancient temples dedicated to Greek gods and goddesses. Then there are magnificent jewels of nature like the famed Mount Olympus and the Edessa waterfalls.
Greece has stunning venues all over the country, nestled in lush vineyards, beside picturesque beaches, or on romantic islands. These days, couples have weddings in Santorini, Crete, Athens, and beyond. Beach weddings are particularly popular, for Greece has a vast scope of beaches ranging from the black sands in Santorini to the beautiful coastal bays of Rhodes.
The accommodation in Greece is magnificent, with modern luxury but all of the charm of traditional Grecian culture. Wedding venues in Greece breathe peace and serenity and come alive under the stars. They’re surrounded by unmissable sights and experiences and are an all-round perfect setting to your big day.
And there’s so much to do in Greece! Leisure activities range from simply relaxing in the hotel pool to hiking across spectacular landscapes and scuba diving in incredible seas. The Greek islands in particular are magical places where you can explore caves and look out over magnificent sunsets, hand in hand with the love of your life.
With this incredible mix of things to do and places to visit, it’s no wonder that many couples also choose to have their honeymoon in Greece. Or, indeed, a combined wedding and honeymoon—a weddingmoon. Greece is a famously romantic place, and honeymoons in Greece are a very special occasion. Visit some of the best restaurants in the world and sip wine on the balcony of a Greek villa, overlooking shining seas.
Different places have different legal requirements in order for you to get married, so you must explore these thoroughly in order to make your marriage valid. For a wedding in Greece, for example, documentation must be officially translated into Greek and the marriage must be registered. If you’re unsure of what you have to do, having a wedding planner will no doubt help navigate you through the technicalities, so it’s well worth investing in one.
Greece may be your idea of paradise, but having a wedding abroad means all of your guests will have to fly out too. This causes all manner of complications, from where everyone will stay to if they can even afford to go.

Greece is a warm country lit by sunshine for most of the year, so there are a few things to consider when looking for clothes—like your wedding dress. Firstly, it’s best not to bury yourself in layers of heavy fabrics like velvet, or synthetic materials like polyester. They don’t “breathe” as well as natural, lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton, so if you wear them in warm conditions you’ll probably feel very uncomfortable. Also, light colours like white or ivory are a traditional colour choice, and they help to keep you cool. Dark colours hold more heat and are best avoided.
