The Latest Designer Bridesmaid Dresses for 2014

This year’s designer bridesmaid gowns are a gorgeous mix of cool contemporary in sophisticated silver greys and two-tone colours alongside full-length classics in every shade of blue, plus all your favourites as usual. With an array of interesting shoulder straps and necklines to choose from, here is my pick of the latest designs by Vera Wang, Sophia Tolli, and Alfred Angelo for 2014.

Colours

Silver grey is a very modern look for your bridesmaids and works beautifully with a classic white floral bouquet or with colour; pink works particularly well against this neutral.

This season’s colour of choice is blue, in all shades, from pale powder blues and metallics to rich, deep navy, electric and royal blue. Mixing blues together can look amazing as you can see below. The two-tone blues could be incorporated into the rest of your wedding style, from your groom, best man and ushers’ suits to your reception venue and table decorations.

There are still plenty of red and pink styles to be found and also several other interesting two-tone styles in different colours. Neutral and earthy colours like the silver-greys, such as pale golds, creams and browns are also all around this year.

 Styles

Classic long lines are still in, and there are several shorter knee-length hemlines around too with interesting fishtail and puffball skirts if you’re looking for something a little different. You have your pick of necklines from strapless to asymmetrical, off the shoulder and more. So there’s  a shape for every bridesmaid out there.

Trends

The fashion for nearly matching bridesmaids is still here, so if the idea of pretty maids all in a row, all neatly matching, turns your stomach, go for gowns in different shapes with a matching colour. Alternatively, have your bridesmaids in the same style of gown but in different colours or different shades of the same colour. This looks especially good when your bridesmaids have very different heights, shapes, styles or colouring. Of course if you want your girls all matching, go for it. Another modern look is matching gowns in a neutral colour such as grey with brightly coloured shoes and sashes to add extra interest to your wedding photos in a cool and contemporary way.

Designer gowns are often streets ahead of their high street counterparts, often not just for their design, but in their fabrics, detailing and creation as well.
