A bespoke suit is an investment. If you plan to wear yours for years to come, then make sure you don’t make it too trend-inspired. Yes, you might love that cropped, super-skinny jacket now, but you don’t want to look back on your wedding photos in 10 years time, thinking that you look dated.

 Nothing beats an excellently fitted, elegant suit in a high quality cloth – this will never get old!

Consider the Context

If you’re having a winter wedding, it will have a completely different vibe than a summer wedding. Winter weddings require a suit in a heavier cloth; something with beautiful drape and texture. Summer weddings, especially in warmer climates, need cloth as light as a feather – perhaps a lightweight merino or a relaxed linen.

 Earthy tweeds look incredible for rustic, country weddings, whilst sharp mohair look superb for weddings in the city.

 Make sure you consider the context and theme of your own wedding when deciding upon the style and cloth of your suit.

Do You Have to Go for Navy?

There’s no denying it: navy suits are incredibly flattering. But do you have to go for navy?

Lighter colours look amazing in summer wedding suits, particularly pale greys and blues. In winter, something like a mid-blue or grey might be more appropriate.

But why stop there – have you considered brown, burgundy or even deep green? Whilst these colours might feel rather wild, if you keep the cut simple, slim and elegant, you will look a million dollars.

Have Fun with Your Accessories!

Accessories add the finishing touches to your suit, but always keep in mind: less is (generally) more.

 If you have chosen a very bold cloth for your suit, keep the rest of your outfit very simple. You cannot go wrong with a crisp white shirt with double cuffs, particularly if you want to keep your outfit very formal.

 However, if you have chosen a very clean and simple suit, and you are planning a very relaxed wedding, have fun with pattern, whether it’s in your shirt, tie or pocket square.

 Texture can also lift your outfit, so don’t be afraid of going for a knitted tie or textured pocket square. Details such as pocket watches or beautiful tie pins are great, however make sure you don’t over-do it.

Make a Wedding Suit Mood Board

Pinterest is your friend here, fellas! If you don’t know how to use it, get your fiancé to show you – they have probably been using it for months of wedding planning!

Pinterest can be a real help, especially if you are still not sure exactly what you want. Type ‘wedding suit’ into the search bar and pin everything that you like onto your wedding suit mood board. Soon enough, you will start to see your style emerging.

Once you have found a few images that you like, print them off to show your tailor at your initial consultation. It will really help them to be in line with your own vision.

Don’t Delay!

Finally, don’t leave it all to the last minute. There is nothing worse than feeling rushed when buying a bespoke wedding suit – this is meant to be an enjoyable experience that should be savoured.

Whilst our regular lead time for suits is 11 weeks, we highly recommend visiting your tailor 6 months before the wedding. This allows you to take your time and work with your tailor to get the suit of your dreams.

As a bonus, this also means that you can collect your suit several weeks before the wedding, knowing that it is one less thing to organise in the lead up to the big day.
