One Dress Two Weddings

Wedding guests, if you’ve been invited to more than one wedding this year, the costs can add up. No one wants to wear the same outfit twice, particularly in front of some of the same crowd but if you know how, you can wear the same dress in two very different ways. It’s all in the details! Here’s how to wear the same dress to two very different weddings, save money and still look stunning.

There’s something about being invited to a wedding that makes us all tingle with excitement: a glorious setting, fun and photos and everyone in their glad rags. And would you believe it, you don’t get a whiff of an invite for years and then, like the buses, two come along at once!

Two weddings can mean two fabulous outfits which equals two sets of costs!  Confetti’s fashion expert Carol Richardson, says: “Why buy two dresses when you can accessorise one? All you have to do is invest in one good outfit and ring the changes with a selection of fabulous accessories.”

How to get the look

With a simple, classic design in one colour such as navy blue or a neutral like dove grey or cream, you can accessorise with colour, shape and texture to make it look completely different.

Teaming a navy or dove grey dress, for instance, with pale blush pink accessories works very well just as a plain baby blue dress could be jazzed up with red accessories for one wedding and toned down with ivory for another.

You’ll look stunning and stylish in the same dress and no one will even notice!

Wedding No.1: Formal

With a plain, classic shift dress just skimming your curves, add a contrasting or patterned scarf to change the look of the outfit instantly. Add a sparkly belt, a gorgeous hat and a three-quarter length coat which is ideal for the cooler evening reception.

Wedding No.2: Informal

The same dress can be worn to a less formal wedding with a completely different look by adding a contrasting or patterned short jacket, wrap or cardigan with a bold statement necklace instead of the scarf. A pretty fascinator or hair accessory such as a large brightly coloured silk flower or a sparkly vintage style alice band will finish off the look perfectly.

Shoes

While classic courts are all very well, this season there are so many fab shoe shapes around, so to funk up a wedding outfit a little, look for high heel sandals with gladiator style straps or ‘va va voom’ heels highlighted with floral trims and embellishments. Satin peep-toe heels for one wedding followed by strappy suede wedges for the next will create two very different looks.

Bags

As a guest, you need one bag large enough to hold the essentials – lipstick, compact, mobile, keys, cash and a digital camera as well as the all-important confetti, but you don’t want to look as if you’re off to do your weekly shopping!

Look for a bag that’s large enough to take all you need (or give it all to your partner to carry!) but stylish enough to complement your outfit. A classic Hollywood style clutch bag for the formal wedding in sparkling silver or gold is one great look while a cute fabric bag slung over your elbow for an informal do is all that’s needed and still looks great!

A classic outfit is timeless

Remember investing in one classic dress is an investment as you could have it for years. The same dress could be worn to many different occasions: weddings, christenings and parties. Simply add different coloured accessories each time – a belt, a scarf, a wrap or a coat, a hat, a different bag and contrasting shoes is all it takes. It’s all in the details.
