This month’s Real Honeymoon, Marrakech is uncovered by Lucia Silver, founder of celebrated Bridal design house, State of Grace.
Where? Marrakech
Why here? It is unexpected, glamorous and mysterious. A perfect combination of romance and discovery. Plus, it’s 3 hours from London and more exotic than virtually anywhere in the world.
Best memory? I was married in Marrakech and fell in love with the city then. I determined to come back and find a little palace of my own. I told everyone I knew and everyone I didn’t that I was searching. I must have looked at nearly 50 riads and then suddenly it was love at first site when I saw this ancient ruin! I thought ‘I’m a designer, so I’m going to completely restore this riad and make it into my dream come true’. I remember the sun setting into a purple pink hue, the breeze was softly blowing the bougainvillea on the terrace and we could hear the gentle call to prayer in the distance. We sat down to a delicious Dar Jaguar tagine and a glass of chilled rosé. The dream was finally a reality.
Luxury Accomodation
Dar Jaguar is an ancient riad that has been lovingly restored as a breathtakingly beautiful private guesthouse.
Best thing about Dar Jaguar? It’s 5 minutes from the main square in the medina. You can’t drive inside the medina, so being near to everything is fantastic! It is also right next door to one of the most popular markets in Marrakesh – the Spice Market! The medina is a fascinating treasure trove of activity, so you will want to return to some peace and tranquillity which Dar Jaguar provides!
Romance in buckets
The honeymoon suite is an enormous historic room embellished with exquisitely intricate hand-sculpted plasterwork. There’s a private Juliet balcony, a four poster bed and a freestanding copper bath (pictured).
Don’t miss? Getting lost in the medina. You discover all the best things when you loose your way!
