Nine Heart-Warming Pictures of the Queen & Prince Philip

As we learn of the sad passing of HRH Prince Philip today, we wanted to pay tribute to him with a collection of some of our favourite and most inspiring pictures of him alongside his wife, the Queen.

The couple were married for an incredible 74 years, and her Majesty the Queen described him as: “her strength and her stay.”

Prince Philip & The Queen on Their Wedding Day

Prince Philip and the Queen married on 20th November 1947 at Westminster Abbey – the Queen had to use rationing coupons to buy her wedding dress in a post WWII Britain.

We adore this picture of the young newlyweds greeting royal fans and well-wishers from the iconic balcony at Buckingham Palace – a scene of many joyous events over the years.

At Their Library at Balmoral Castle

It’s well-known that Balmoral Castle was a beloved rural escape from Prince Philip and the Queen. Here they are pictured at their library within the castle in 1974.

Prince Philip and The Queen on Honeymoon

The royal couple spent their honeymoon in the UK – we love this tender picture of them in Broadlands in Hampshire taken in 1947.

Looking at Their Great-Grandchildren’s Crafts

This fairly recent photo of the royal couple marks their 73rd anniversary, and Prince Philip can be seen reading an anniversary card made by his great-grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Princess Beatrice’s Wedding

Princess Beatrice’s wedding was an uplifting moment for the whole nation during the early stages of the pandemic, and this photo of the proud grandparents standing at a safe distance from the newlyweds is really heart-warming and encapsulates what it’s been like for many families trying to celebrate together over the past year.

With His Eldest Children

Prince Philip was a proud father to four children – here is a picture of him with a very young Prince Charles and Princess Anne, as well as the Queen.

On His 99th Birthday

Prince Philip lived to the incredible age of 99 – he would have turned 100 on 10th June, 2021. The Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen released this photo taken outside of Windsor Castle, where they had been shielding due to the pandemic, to mark his 99th birthday.

Meeting His Great-Grandson

The nation loved seeing these heart-warming photographs of the Queen and Prince Philip meeting their great-grandson, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, alongside Meghan Markle’s mother Doria Ragland.

Laughing with The Queen

Lastly, we love this photo of the Duke of Edinburgh sharing a laugh together during an official visit to Ireland in 2011.
