Take an anniversary trip…

What could be more romantic than taking an anniversary trip together to celebrate your big day?

What better way to celebrate than escaping away together for a romantic anniversary trip? Whether it’s a nostalgia trip to the spot you first met, or just somewhere you always wanted to go, finding the ideal venue is the first step to a successful celebration. Of course, there are plenty of other things to consider too, so follow our guide to planning a brilliant anniversary break and the only thing you’ll have to worry about is remembering your passport.

Ripe for romance

Paris, Rome, Venice, Prague, New York, Buenos Aires… many cities claim they’re the home of romance. For an ideal anniversary trip, choose the one that means the most to you. Perhaps the two of you once took a trip together to a certain city ‐‐ maybe it was your shared love of a particular place that drew you together in the first place. If you’re struggling for inspiration, choose a destination which combines your joint interests ‐‐ a five‐star city break goes down well with those who enjoy sightseeing whereas a weekend by the beach suits those who just need to relax!

Best of Blighty

Staying at home can be special too. Britain boasts beautiful beaches, historical houses, wonderful woodland and picturesque villages. Check with the tourist board to see what tempts the tourists in ‐‐ then go out of season. Try Shakespeare and scenery in Stratford‐Upon‐Avon, puffins and peaceful coastline in Berwick‐Upon‐Tweed or history and architecture in Edinburgh.

Surprise, surprise

You may want to surprise your spouse with an anniversary trip. Surprise trips can be wonderfully romantic but you need to follow a couple of simple rules first. Most importantly of all, ensure that you book a trip which your spouse will enjoy ‐‐ it sounds simple enough, but don’t book a weekend of walking in the Fens if your spouse would rather hide than go hiking. Secondly, hide all correspondence relating to said surprise trip from your spouse ‐‐ if you’re booking a trip by email, use a personal account which he or she will not be able to access and get postal confirmations sent to your work address!

Love that luxury

Anniversaries are a time to treat yourselves, so book the best hotel you can afford and remember to treat yourselves once you arrive at your destination. After all, you’ve been successfully married for all this time, so why not enjoy a joint reward? Book a massage, go on a spending spree, or treat yourselves to a Michelin‐starred dinner…

Quality time

The main advantage of taking an anniversary trip is that it allows you to celebrate together, uninterrupted by the trivial trials of everyday life. Switch off your mobiles, walk right past those internet cafés and instead enjoy nothing but the sights and each others’ company. This can also be a great way for you to reconnect as a couple and fall in love all over again.
