Now that the initial euphoria has died down we’ve started to realise that we do actually have a wedding to organise ‐ I never really knew how much was involved. A friend of a friend took 9 months of work to organise her wedding ‐ sounds like a great idea to me, however RT isn’t quite that obliging!
The one thing that hasn’t died down is my happiness that RT has asked me to marry him. I didn’t think it was possible but in many ways it has bought us even closer and made me fall even more in love with him. I always knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this man ‐ but now it’s really happening, this is the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with, have Children with and share everything good and bad with. I can’t think of anything better.
In terms of timing we’re thinking June 2002 ‐ that gives us 18 months to get everything organised. Part of me wants to get on and get married this summer ‐ we’re already so excited, but realistically with shipping everybody over from the States we’re going to have to allow ourselves ‐ and the Americans ‐ plenty of time to save and plan. Oh and there is one more thing ‐ I don’t know if I’ve told you yet but we have to have a civil ceremony in the States otherwise I’m not legally recognised as RT’s wife. We’ve decided to do that fairly soon after our UK wedding ‐ though obviously not on the same scale. We hope that close friends and family will come with us, so again they’ll need plenty of time to plan. The best bit is I get to wear my dress twice…bargain!
We’ve been to my parents this weekend to start planning the wedding, we were going to see the Vicar but he’s on holiday (did you know Vicar’s have holiday’s?) we’ve chatted to him on the phone and he seems nice and laid back so hopefully that part will run smoothly.
The one thing we are all agreed on is that we want a marquee for the reception (American’s call them tents ‐ we’ll have to educate them ‐ I am not having my wedding reception in a tent!). Mum and Paul (my step‐dad) haven’t lived in the area they’re in for very long so don’t know all the different marquee companies, caterers etc so what we’ve done is to go through the Confetti list of suppliers in our area and emailed them a standard note to start sending us brochures and information. It actually seems like quite a nice way of doing things ‐ we can sit and relax with a bottle of wine while planning our wedding ‐ very civilised!
