The winner of our February 2012 Love My Dress Competition, voted on by the Confetti staff, is Sophie Trinder! Here is what she told us about her dress:
“I adore my wedding dress! I had been looking online and in wedding shops for a few weeks, but my dress was only the 3rd wedding dress that I tried on and I knew the second that I saw it, it was THE ONE. When I tried it on and looked in the mirror I burst out crying with happiness, as did my mum and maid of honour so we all knew that no other dress could come close so didn’t even bother trying any other dresses on.
I wanted something quite simple in terms of the fabric but yet beautiful and this ticked all of the boxes. I have a big bust so wanted a dress that would even me out so the dropped waist was ideal for doing this. I felt like a princess on our wedding day and no other dress could have made me feel so great.”
Here are other lovely brides who were shortlisted for the prize:
”I was totally in love with my dress as soon as I tried it on. I knew I wanted to wear a lace dress and when I tried on Maggie Sottero Evelyn, I knew it was the perfect dress for me. I received so my compliments and felt amazing on our wedding day!”
“The first thing that drew me to the dress was the beautiful lace flowers all over the bodice, and down the top part of the skirt. The flowers create a 3D effect on the dress, and there is lots of sparkle as well with crystals and beads sewn on. Oh, and the 11 layers on the skirt(!) made an excellent swoosh and flare when I was spinning round in the dress shop the first time I tried it on!”
“This is my fabulous wedding dress designed by myself and a dress maker in Paris. I tried so many shop wedding dresses but none really fitted my style. As I wanted one to be more unique and personalised, I went to see a dress maker and I was so happy with the result. My husband’s tie was made from the dress’ fabric too.”
“I’ve always been a quiet person, so I wanted my wedding dress to stand out for the right reasons. The assistant in the shop actually pointed it out to me, I loved the satin fabric but was slightly unsure of the colour (Silver Haze), but once I put the dress on I felt so happy! I wanted to keep the colour a secret, only my mum and my bridesmaids knew about it, so when my husband-to-be saw it, his face was something I’ll remember forever!”
“I loved how light it felt when I wore it, and I felt amazing walking through the grounds of the hotel to meet my husband to be. The back of the dress, at the top, was lace and I loved how unusual it was – I kept asking the photographer to make sure he got a picture of it as I was under strict instructions from my Mum.”
“I love my dress because it made me feel beautiful. The train was really long and had beautiful spangly bits all over it. It took me quite a while to find my dress, because being a larger lady I couldn’t quite find anything that was flattering, until this dress came along.”
A special mention goes to Portia Potter for her one-of-a-kind entry, read her story below:
I love my wedding dress because it was the most expensive swimming costume ever 🙂
I had only 7 weeks to find my dress, and being a 5 foot, curvy lady, I thought it was going to be extremely hard work and I had not idea where to even start.
Every Tuesday I teach babies to swim (I’m a baby swimming instructor!) and on my way I pass a bridal shop. I always used to gaze in there and think the dresses were beautiful but not something that would suit me. I remember thinking “I have to start somewhere, so why not here?” I telephoned to book myself in for a look around with my mum and right from the beginning, I knew I was going to get my dress from this shop.
The owner was fab! She let me have a look around and pick out dresses that I liked the look of. I’ve always been a curvy girl and so pick my clothes according to whether I think I will fit into them! So I tried on the dresses I picked, all 3 of them! The owner then chose a few for me, they were nice, but not what I wanted – to be honest, I didn’t know what I wanted! She then brought out this dress which was like a pearly colour, I dismissed it straight away because I wasn’t sure about it. She persuaded me to try it on and reluctantly I did.
Wowzers! It was amazing! It fitted in all the right places! It then hit me; I just couldn’t believe I was going to be a bride and this was going to be the dress I was going to marry my lovely husband in! I had done it in an hour, one shop and probably only tried 7 dresses on in total!
After the best day of my life, I decided I wanted to do something with my dress, I mean it cost nearly a thousand pounds and it would just sit in my attic getting moth-eaten! So I decided I would do an underwater photo shoot in my dress – the babies that I teach do it, so why can’t I?! I love organising the underwater photo shoots and think the photos we get are amazing and thought I would like to have an unusual wedding photo! So after about 150 shots, we got about 7 amazing ones that I just cannot believe were ever possible, I love them so much.
And the dress? Well she had a good rinse off and is absolutely fine, just waiting for the next crazy thing I have in store for her………….!
