Your Wedding – Great Gatsby Style

13th September 2012 |By | 9 Comments

Films have always influenced fashion, and wedding fashion is no exception. The newest rendition of The Great Gatsby sparked our appetite for stunning 1920s wedding dresses and accessories. This new trend has already appeared in some major autumn/winter 2012 and spring/summer 2013 collections, and we predict it will be huge next year too! The influence can be found not just in gowns, but also embellishments and styling. Celebrate the sophisticated style of the Roaring Twenties on your wedding day and be both vintage and right on trend! Here are our favourite choices for that perfect 20s inspiration look!

The key features of this style include: the characteristic ‘drop waist’, straight cut shapes that just skim the figure, low waistlines, and short hemlines. Low- cut necklines, both front or back (not usually at the same time), sleeveless or with lace or fringe sleeves and embellished with beading, sequins, embroidery or feather accents.

While the 20s look fits a summer wedding perfectly, it can work all year round with appropriate accessories, such as longer sleeves for spring/autumn, and a bolero for the winter.

Wish I could turn my wedding into a 1920s flapper extravaganza, everything is already bought and paid for though 🙁

When is your wedding Emma – could you add some touches, like a bit of decor, some jewellery, or 20s style shoes? 😉

Hi Lara, thank you for your comment! I think first you need to do a little research online for the particular style. 1920s dresses usually have drop waists, so this is the style you should focus on. You can add some accessories like little hats with feathers, peeptoe shoes with buckles, and short gloves to add more vintage authenticity. Here is a link where you can see lots of dresses in that style and take it from there – hope it helps! 🙂
