Made from light lemon sponge, elderflower buttercream,  and Sicilian lemon curd—and finished with shimmering chocolate pearls and delicate flowers—Iceland’s two-tiered, three-layered wedding cake is a labour of love that’s worthy of royalty. While Harry and Meghan’s wedding cake hasn’t yet been revealed and is likely to cost thousands of pounds instead of just £8, Iceland’s head chef (Neil Nugent, who designed the replica), has added touches to his recipe that he believes will also be included in the royal wedding cake.

“The cake features everything the royal couple has asked for,” he says. “Including a shimmery finish with chocolate pearls, light sponge, and fragrant buttercream. I’d also recommend adding some wild flowers decorations to keep up the royal theme.”

The cake looks very similar to the beautiful cakes made by Claire Ptak of east London’s Violet Bakery, who has reportedy been asked by Harry and Meghan to create their wedding cake. Many of Violet Bakery’s cakes feature beautiful fresh flowers, so it’s highly likely that the royal wedding cake will too. Furthermore, Meghan is known to be a fan of peonies, which will be in bloom for her May wedding and which have been used on Violet Bakery’s masterpieces in the past.

Peonies coming soon…

This isn’t the first time Claire has made a wonderful cake for a celebrity either: last year she made this striking autumnal cake for Jamie Oliver’s son River.

If you’d like to sink your teeth into one of Iceland’s gorgeous lemon-and-elderflower cakes, Iceland are warning that only a few will be on sale at each store. They will also only be available for one week from the 14th May—the week that Harry and Meghan get married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
