9 Tips for Making the Most of a Wedding Show

As we gear up for the autumn wedding show season, I thought I’d share 9 easy tips for making the most of a wedding show:

1. Come Ready to Book

Before the day you’re due to attend the show, do a bit of research into the suppliers who’ll be there. If you’re looking to book a photographer, browse the organiser’s website for all the photographers who’ll be exhibiting and check out their websites and come prepared with any questions you may have so that you can make an informed decision and be ready to book!

2. Come with a Plan

Wedding shows are extremely busy. There’ll be loads of brides-to-be milling about, trying to sort her wedding and book suppliers, too. If you don’t do well in crowds, you’d be best arriving with a plan of what you want to get out of the show. Even if you’re not coming to book, it’ll be helpful to know if you’ll be looking for cake makers or a venue, transportation or decor.

3. See the Catwalk

Most wedding shows have at least one catwalk showcasing upcoming wedding trends from bridalwear and bridesmaids dresses to outfits for the mothers of the bride and groom to menswear. If you’re unsure about the right dress, it can be helpful to see a range of styles and shapes modelled on the runaway; you may find that it aids you in your choice.

4. Speak to the Pros

One of the best things about a wedding show is that there are hundreds if not thousands of wedding experts crammed under one roof. It’s the perfect opportunity to speak to the pros and get advice, inspiration and some insider tips and tricks. Trust us, this can make all the difference in planning your wedding.

5. Go to the Talks

Whether it’s a demonstration on makeup, a tutorial on how to theme your wedding or an on-stage makeover, attend as many of the talks and demos as you can. You’ll find the information invaluable and you may even spot the finishing touch to your bridal look.

6. Take Notes

Take your tablet, a digital camera or just a pad and pen –no matter how you do it, be sure to take notes of the things you like and the things you want to incorporate into your day. You don’t have to make every decision on the day, taking a photo and jotting down a note is a great way to share what you’ve seen with your partner or other decision makers. Plus, there’s no pressure to buy!

7. Dress Appropriately

There’s a lot of walking at wedding shows, especially the bigger ones. And although we know you look glamourous in a pair of 7-inch court shoes, it’s best to ditch the stilettos for trainers and keep it comfy and casual. A wedding show isn’t the place for hobbling about in shoes you can barely move in!

8. Don’t Miss the Freebies

There will be a lot of freebies at a wedding show. Make sure you score your goody bag and any freebies from the stalls you visit. They won’t technically help you when planning your wedding, but you can never have too many mini bottles of shampoo or trial size nail varnishes, can you? No, you can’t. Don’t miss the freebies!

9. Get Your Magazine for FREE (RRP £3.99)

Every wedding fair or show we list on our site has one thing in common: all brides who attend can walk away with our 160-page glossy magazine jam-packed with inspiration and advice on how to theme your wedding and the amazing products and services we offer.
