I am 53 and getting married for the first time in November. I have a pale ivory dress and my bridesmaids will be in a very unusual deep coral/raspberry colour. My flower girl is in this colour also with ivory tulle overlay. My theme is one of glamour with touches of diamante crystal on the invitations, cake and table decorations. My dilemma is what flowers to go for. Although I do love the whites I want something to wow the overall look (I detest false diamond pins put into flowers).I am a plus-size bride and need a fairly big bouquet. Please help me!
As your colour scheme is so unusual I think it's important to make an appointment with a couple of florists to discuss the many options. It's also worth going through some floral inspiration online before you visit the florist so you know what's possible and what you are looking for. They are the experts in their field and will be able to show you portfolios so that you can choose just what you want or commission them to come up with something completely unique just for you. It's worth taking a swatch of material in your bridesmaid dress colour to show the florist to ensure you go for a colour that really gives you that 'wow factor' you're after.
Instead of white flowers I would suggest you consider a mix of several shades of reds, deep coral and raspberry colours for your bouquet (rather than trying to find the one perfect shade) or go for organic green which would make a beautiful contrast against this very unusual deep coral/raspberry colour. Gentle greens and ivories won't clash but should bring out the vibrancy of this reddish shade and plenty of natural foliage will bring colour without any overwhelming clash.
And for a plus-size bride I'd always recommend a trailing teardrop shaped bouquet rather than a rounded, hand-held style (unless you love those!) A longer line bouquet with trailing ivy will give the illusion of a narrow line against your gown which draws the eye up and down whereas a round bouquet may accentuate the width of your skirt. I hope that helps!
