Longleat House is widely regarded as one of the best examples of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain and one of the most beautiful stately homes open to the public. Built in the 16th century for Sir John Thynne, who, along with Robert Smythson, contributed significantly to the architectural design. It took over 12 years to complete.
Set in the magnificent beauty of the Wiltshire countryside, Longleat is the home of the Marquess of Bath, and sits between the village of Horningsham and the towns of Warminster in Wiltshire and Frome in Somerset.
In 1949, Longleat House was the first stately home to open to the public on a fully commercial basis and in 1966 the first drive through Safari Park outside of Africa was opened. It is now home to more than five hundred animals. The Adventure Park now has over 12 attractions to experience and the seventh Marquess of Bath has added his favourites, the hedge maze, sun maze, love maze and lunar labyrinth!
