Built in the late 1800s, Montrose House was one of Edinburgh’s first public houses. Set over two floors, Montrose offers a cosy ground-floor wine bar and intimate first-floor dining room, all within walking distance of Edinburgh’s iconic Princes Street, Palace of Holyrood and the Scottish Parliament. Although only opened at the end of 2023, Montrose is already on the Michelin recommended list. As it is a sister to Timberyard it very much follow the same ethos and style of cooking as Timberyard and is the ideal option for a smaller party.

Choose to simply hire the upstairs restaurant for up to 25 guests for a half or full day, or, add the downstairs bar for arrival drinks, move up to the restaurant for your wedding breakfast, then come back down for drinks, dancing and mingling until late. At this point you can add an additional 15 or so guests for the evening.

The dining room would be ready for your arrival, tables set to include linen napkins, your name cards plus any favours. We further decorate Montrose plus the tables with chunky cream pillar candles, if you prefer to introduce another colour you are welcome to bring your own candles & holders & table cloths. Any flower arrangements you supply will be arranged as instructed in readiness for your arrival by your florist. We are delighted to recommend florists, musicians & photographers who have worked with us previously, although you are free to choose your own. The ingredients for our menus plus our own soft drinks are led by what is available seasonally and locally wherever possible.

Both the restaurant and wine bar menus showcase the finest quality seasonal and locally-sourced produce, including wild game, rare breed cattle, foraged ingredients, and organic fruit and vegetables.

The wine list at Montrose focus on small producers who respect the land they farm and the grapes they harvest. We offer a totally capsule-free and 100% organic wine list. The drinks list focuses on the unique also includes organic beer and spirits, as well as house-made soft drinks and cocktails.
