About Penshurst Place & Gardens

Enclosed by acre upon acre of green hillside and nestled alongside a charming Tudor village between the Medway and the Eden rivers, Penshurst Place is truly a unique wedding destination. Eleven acres of beautiful formal gardens surround the historic house creating a botanical crown befitting of the location.

In the spring, over 12,500 bright yellow tulips bloom in the Italian Garden, creating a photographic backdrop unlike that of any other venue, whilst the summer sees the bordered walkways and paths come to life with bright vivid colours, soft roses, irises and a myriad of beautiful bedding plants, including the spectacular 100metre Peony Border, which contains 4 varieties of soft pink Peonies -  a truly astonishing vista for your photographer to capture.

Inside, couples will discover the medieval Baron’s Hall which was completed in 1341 and features a 60feet high chestnut beamed ceiling and bricked flagstone flooring. Licensed for ceremonies and receptions, this breath-taking room captures the simplicity and beauty of the medieval era allowing each couple to add their own personal stamp through their colour scheme and decorations for up to 200 ceremony guests, and 136 for seated dining.

Upstairs lies the opulent Sunderland Room. Half wooden-panelled and half stone-walled, the Sunderland Room is slightly smaller than the Baron’s Hall and offers a more Elizabethan aesthetic. Licensed for both ceremonies and receptions the Sunderland Room is especially pretty during the festive season, with a large Christmas tree and roaring fire to keep up to 136 ceremony guests and 88 seated dining guests, warm and cosy.

Couples looking to wed in the summer months may prefer an outdoor ceremony in the intimate inner courtyard. A secluded, private outside space that can be used for ceremonies or an entertainment space, It has scented climbing roses and clematis set against the ancient walls of the historic home and adjoins the magnificent medieval Baron’s Hall.

Penshurst Place encapsulates the grandeur of a stately home, and the intimate charm of a country retreat, offering couples and their guests a truly unique setting for their wedding.
