Meet the Owner
Couture. The internet is full of companies that will tell you that they will custom build your dress. On average a couture dress takes 8 fittings, even shop bought dresses may well take up to five fittings to make it perfect. Shop bought dresses. You can be the same size in measurements as the next bride, but a completely different shape. Don't take advice from someone selling you something, it's their job to sell to you. Dressmakers are service led, the three dimensional problem solvers. Not only does your dress have to flatter, photograph well, but also needs to not overwhelm you on the day. I see brides that want to show off the 'girls' then buy a low cut back , which won't give you the support you need, especially if you are over a 'd' cup! Petticoats, under skirts, that don't have the correct structure to carry the dress, or sometimes, so full that it doesn't allow the fabric to move. Don't get me started on 'belts'! Basically a trim length stitched onto a ribbon. There are lots of ways to achieve this look with out buying something that is too small, leaving a gap at the back, or having a childlike ribbon hanging down your back. When purchasing a shop bought dress, please make sure that you check it thoroughly before leaving the shop. When shopping, always take time to think about what you are spending. Walk away if you have any doubts. You can always make another appointment to make sure. Check the t's and c's of any business when spending huge amounts of money. You would if you were buying technology, a sofa, kitchen or a car, so why not when buying clothing? All of the above is not to scare or be negative, but with decades of brides buying stories, good and bad, I wish I could be your dressmaker god mother to advise each and everyone of you.
