The bridesmaid – your role at the wedding
Did you know that the role of the bridesmaid dates from pagan times, when evil spirits were thought to attend wedding ceremonies? By surrounding the bride with ‘look‐a‐likes’…
Congratulations, you’ve been asked to be bridesmaid! Here’s how to play the part perfectly, and enjoy it.
The role of the bridesmaid dates back to pagan times, when evil spirits were thought to attend wedding ceremonies. By surrounding the bride with “look‐a‐likes” it was thought the bad spirits wouldn’t be able to single out the bride. Unless your bride is horribly superstitious, chances are she’s not too concerned about this and has instead chosen her bridesmaids as the girls she’d most like to have support from in the run up to the wedding and on the big day itself. So, it’s something of an honour to be asked.
Your role is hugely important and varied ‐ from accompanying the bride on shopping sprees to organising the hen night and walking down the aisle behind her. And, of course, we can only hope the bride loves you enough not to make you wear that peach taffeta number.
So, relax and enjoy, and let Confetti take you through everything you need to know to be a great bridesmaid.
