Getting Married in Ibiza
Ibiza is one of the most desirable places to get married in the Mediterranean. Here’s everything you need to know about getting married in Ibiza, thanks to the experts at Ibiza Wedding Shop.
Sunshine Paradise Island
Ibiza is one of the Balearic islands, an archipelago of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. Well known for the lively nightlife in Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni, it is also home to quiet, pretty villages, tranquil beaches and sandy coves backed by pine-clad hills. The wedding season lasts from May to October, with May, June and September being the most popular months, and UK flights take just two hours.
Simplicity Beach
A particularly beautiful part of the island is Simplicity Beach, with its elegant beach venue set right next to the sea on the rocks. This is one of the best locations for unspoilt sunset views.

What You Need to Know About Getting Married in Ibiza
Only Ibiza residents, or non-resident Catholic couples can legally marry in Ibiza. All other couples who want to get married in Ibiza have to be legally married in their home country first. There are three types of wedding ceremonies available to the non-residents, and you would need to decide which option is the most suitable one for you.
Catholic Wedding in Ibiza
If either of you is Catholic, then you could choose to have a legally binding wedding in the Roman Catholic church. Ibiza is filled with lovely white-washed churches with English-speaking Catholic priests available to conduct the ceremony and Mass. This option requires completion of a marriage preparation course and additional paperwork before the ceremony can be performed, so you should allow plenty of time to submit all the necessary documents. It is advisable to contact a priest in the UK to ask for his help in arranging this, while your wedding planner in Ibiza will put you and the priest in contact with a local priest in Ibiza to conduct the ceremony.
You will need the following documents:
- valid 10-year passport
- baptism certificate
- confirmation certificate
- certificate of no impediments
- certificate of completion of pre-marriage course
Please note: the local priest and the wedding planner will advise you on any other documentation needed.
Religious Blessing in Ibiza
Another religious option is a blessing at an interdenominational English-speaking church. For this you will need to be legally married in the UK first, and then to come to Ibiza for the blessing ceremony.
Non-Religous Ceremony
You could have a beautifully symbolic non-religious ceremony on the beach, at a private villa, hotel, or garden, it can be arranged with a non-clergy ceremony host to lead the ceremony. This option is not legally recognised so you will need to be legally married in the UK either before or after this ceremony in order for their marriage to be valid.
Planning a Wedding in Ibiza
Plan a sunset wedding on the beach, followed by relaxed evening celebrations over charcoal grilled food and crispy fresh salads washed down with local wine. Hire a lovely country villa or rural boutique hotel for your celebration to accommodate your wedding party.
Most ceremonies start in the late afternoon when the temperature is cooler. A party can last until 2am at most indoor venues, although by law there is a midnight curfew for outside music. For entertainment, you could have a DJ or live band, perhaps even a salsa or flamenco show to get everyone in the mood to dance. The experts at Ibiza Wedding Shop will help you every step of the way.
