Jo and Dave’s Destination Wedding
Jo and Dave
05/03/2006 –
How and when did you meet?
On a very drunken evening whilst I was working as a children’s entertainer at a camp site – oh the romance!
How old are you both?
25 and 26.
Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
On a beach in Antigua on our last evening together!
Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?
Of course! Dave went to Brussels and I had two – well you only get one shot! I had a weekend in a cottage full of pampering and then a meal at a lovely restaurant in Plymouth!
How did your groom help with the wedding planning?
As we got married abroad there wasn’t a lot to do but he helped out with the reception for when we got back!
Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?
The website was fantastic – I met loads of people who had got married abroad and they answered all of my questions! It was great sharing all of our different ideas as well.
Do you have a confetti web page?
Kind of! I’m still trying to sort it out!
Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?
Yes, through the Confetti online store.
Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it
I got it from BHS! It is a very simple dress that looks like a two-piece but was only one and the back had lace going up – stunning!
Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
No.
Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?
As we got married away he didn’t have one but my dad wore the same colour shirt as David.
Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?
Civil in a gazebo over the beach!
Where did you hold your ceremony?
At the Sandals Halcyon in St Lucia, Caribbean.
Where did you hold your reception?
Derriford Health and Leisure Centre in Plymouth.
Did you have any special wedding transport?
A helicopter transfer from and to the hotel!
How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?
We had immediate family to the wedding so six guests and 130 to the evening.
Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
Well I had to include my favourite colour, which is pink (but that did match Dave’s shirt!) and then we had some beach themed bits.
How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?
As it was an evening reception which was very informal we decorated all of the tables with starfish, palm tree confetti and just some other silly little bits!
Did you give your guests favours?
Yes, my sister made them all!
Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?
I had flowers freshly picked from their gardens which were beautiful! I think they were orchids.
What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?
We had a five course evening meal in a restaurant overlooking the sea, Dave had mainly fish courses and I had chicken!
What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?
We bought our cake from Lawsons and my mum and sister decorated it; we kept it very simple with pink ribbon, three pink roses and then an orchid to stay with the Caribbean style.
Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?
During the evening we had a DJ who was fantastic!
Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?
No. When people asked, we told them we were going to be putting in a new kitchen so most people gave us money or vouchers.
Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?
In St. Lucia!
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
Standing with my dad looking down into the gazebo where Dave couldn’t see me and to see him with a smile absolutely beaming! Oh and us all going on the rings which get pulled by speed boats 20 minutes after the wedding (I had to get changed first!)
Did you experience any ‘nightmare’ moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?
Nothing, it went absolutely perfectly!
Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?
Relax, enjoy and remember it’s your day so make sure you spend time together as it can get very hectic in the evening!
