Laura and Sam Australia Wedding Story
An exploring honeymoon in Australia
Who booked your honeymoon?
My Husband.
If your husband booked the honeymoon, did he keep it a surprise from you?
No.
How long after your wedding did you leave for your honeymoon?
5 weeks.
Where did you go?
Australia; Sydney, Ayers Rock and Queensland, with 2 night stop-overs in Bangkok on the way there and Singapore on the way home.
How long were you away?
3 weeks.
How much did it cost and what type of holiday was it (all inclusive, self catering, package etc)?
£3,000 each plus spending money. We booked the travel and accommodation with Travelbag but the last week in Australia we sorted out ourselves whilst we were there.
Did you spend the whole holiday in one place or did you travel around?
We travelled around, mainly by plane.
What did you do?
We visited Buddhist temples and markets in Bangkok, went sightseeing in Sydney, trekking around the Blure Mountains. We walked around the base of Ayers Rock; went sailing around the Whitsunday Islands for 3 days; went canoeing and snorkeling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We also went bush walking and took a pleasure flight over Fraser Island.
What was a typical day like?
There was no typical day but it usually involved sightseeing or an action type activity!
How did you and your partner get on?
Very well, it was good to have just each other’s company after the busy run up to the wedding and working afterwards.
What were the best bits?
Snorkeling/diving on the Great Barrier Reef was absolutely amazing – it’s a different world down there. I recommend it to everyone! Seeing the huge golden Buddha in Bangkok and trekking in the Blue Mountains and on the Whitsunday Islands in Oz. I also cuddled a koala, which was really fun.
Were there any worst bits?
The jet lag when we got home, it lasted days. We also tried to get upgrades on the flights but it never worked!
What advice would you give other honeymooners-to-be?
Do everything you can on honeymoon – you may never do it again.
Any other detail/advice/help/stories you would like to share:
Footwear, especially branded shoes, seemed very reasonable in Singapore, so look out for them if you are going there or you have a stopover there.
