- Book early… The winter season often sees venues lower their hire prices as it is a less popular time to get married and they want to fill their books.
- Dare to be different… Just because you are having a winter wedding, it doesn’t mean that your décor has to be full of snowy silvers or Christmas colours. Whilst it makes sense to buy seasonal flowers, don’t be afraid to incorporate them with pops of colour and fun themes that don’t necessarily scream ‘cosy log fire.’
- Embrace it… However, if bold statement colours are not your thing, why not embrace your seasonal wedding with magnificent pearlescent trees, ice sculptures or even a bar or banquet carved entirely from blocks of ice?!
- Ask for help… Winter can often throw adverse weather conditions in your face that even the most prepared bride cannot plan for. When booking your venue, ask them in advance if they will be able to help you, should the worst happen – do they have staff to help clear driveways? Can they provide guests with wellies and brollies if you need them to go outdoors? Can someone from the venue grit pathways and roads near to the venue if necessary?
- Be prepared… Having asked for help, you ought to be prepared in case you have to look adversity in the face. If guests have got a long way to travel, suggest they set off a day or two early to make sure they can get to your wedding. Have a contingency plan in case anybody can’t make it, both in terms of what to do on the day and how to console them afterwards, perhaps with a special memento from your day.
- Be kind to your guests… Don’t leave them standing around in the cold! Or if you must take them outside, ensure they have coats and cover-ups available.
- Make the most of what you’re given… 5 foot of snow on your wedding day may be a logistical nightmare, but it’ll make for some stunning photos! Pop your wellies on under your frock and get your groom to carry you out into the vast unspoilt whiteness; the combination of the fairytale backdrop and your giggles will make for some memorable pictures.
- Let them eat…cheese?! Break the ice amongst your guests with a warming fondue feast. If it’s good enough for premier European ski resorts, it ought to be enough to fill your nearest and dearest up whilst providing them with a talking point over the fondue pot.
- Arrive in style… A classic car may not be as convenient on a winter’s day as a reindeer-drawn sleigh or even a skidoo for adrenaline junkies!
