I’ve still made no definite decisions about my dress. I went to a shop with my sister on Saturday, more for a browse than any serious hunting, however I did try on one dress which I absolutely love. I’m going to see it and one other ,which I also love, this week with Mum. After that I’ll have to decide which I would like ‐ or go ahead and work with the dressmaker who designed a friend of mine’s dress and have it made. Although the dressmaker seems really relaxed about timings, I think I will be more relaxed when the decision has been made, particularly if I go for a “shop” made dress. I keep being told that they need 6 / 7 months to allow for alterations ‐ as the wedding is just over seven months away time is running out…..
We’ve sorted out our music for the day and I’m really pleased. I found a lady on confetti.co.uk who is an agent for a number of musicians including The Salieri String Quartet. She sent us their repertoire list and a CD that we’ve listened to and are really impressed with ‐ RT is going to book them today. The plan is that they’ll play classical music in the church as guests arrive, during my processional and when we walk out together. The music we’d like whilst we’re signing the register isn’t in their repertoire but they’ve agreed to practise and play it for us. Once we’re outside they’ll pack up and hot foot it to the hotel (potential recipe for disaster ‐ must think this one through) where they’ll be playing jazz music during the drinks and canapés. They’ll leave after this as we’ve got a different band for the dancing after dinner.
RT and I are going to my parents the first weekend of December and have planned to go out for dinner with Rozza the Vicar and his wife. Anybody reading this who knows us may be a little surprised that we would be spending our Saturday evening with the Vicar, but we’re really looking forward to it. We’re very lucky with Roy, he’s not much older than us and seems open to our suggestions of what we’d like included in the ceremony. As we don’t live in his parish or know him very well we both feel that’s it’s really important to spend time with him before the day and properly get to know him and vice versa. I suppose I want him to know when he marries us how seriously we are taking this and how committed we are to our life together.
Before that however we have another very important celebration: Thanksgiving! For RT, as for many Americans, this is as big as Christmas. From the two I have experience of, I have to say they are really, really good fun! The first year I didn’t know what to expect. We had two couples over for dinner, one American and one British. We had plenty of Champagne, turkey and the traditional speeches everybody gives, and by the time they left at 3am, everything had become a bit of a blur. This year our guests have all been married in the last couple of months and with ours fast approaching they’ll be plenty to give thanks for ‐ best start planning my speech!
Once Thanksgiving is over, the countdown to our 1 year anniversary of buying the house and getting engaged will begin. I can’t believe a whole year has passed. It has been amazing ‐ without doubt the happiest of my life. I just hope in years to come I can remember all the details which have made the last 12 months so lovely.
Apart from that, the next few weeks are going to be quite tough as RT will be travelling a lot. I have thought that it will give me chance to get lots of wedding bits done, but life is not nearly as much fun as when he isn’t around.
