15 Music matters – Sam’s Wedding Diary

Music for Civil CeremoniesChances are you’ll know the music you want at your wedding, you just won’t be able to name it. After humming unrecognisable tunes down the phone to my fiance for over half an hour I gave up and succumbed to ordering a CD of the most popular wedding ceremony church tunes!

OK, so it may not be a best seller or one you’ll play often after the big day, but it really did help me make a few decisions in preparation for meeting the organist. I soon discovered that that well‐known tune most played when brides walk down the aisle is Wagner’s Bridal March from Lohengrin and that my favourites were Schubert’s Ave Maria and Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. There’s a couple of hymns on the CD as well.

Music for Church CeremoniesConfetti also sell a First Dance Classics CD with everything from Shirley Bassey to the Everly Brothers to help you select a song if you don’t have one that’s special to you both. But if your fiance’s anything like mine, choosing a tune for the first dance won’t be a problem ‐ teaching him to dance (without stepping on my prized Keneth Cole shoes) will! A marine might well be good at navigating around the moors, but shimmying around a six‐foot duchess satin skirt is another skill entirely! And all this after how many glasses of Champagne, wine and whisky?

Oh well, at least our guests can be assured of some good entertainment!
