3 Its a date! Jenny’s Wedding Diary
Knowing how much we had to spend on the wedding (and how long it would take us to save up! Argh!), we thought it was time to set a date.
I’m afraid there was nothing romantic about our decision. I’m always hearing about people who marry on the anniversary of their first date, or on the same date as their parents got married, and I think that’s really sweet. But with us, we had to go for the practical choice, and fit the wedding in around everything else in our lives.
We had already decided on Summer 2005. But we had to take into account that we’ll be graduating that year, and there are all kinds of other family events going on, so the date had to fit around these arrangements. Otherwise, things could all get a bit hectic and stressful!
In the end, we’ve chosen 18th June 2005. It avoids my brother’s end of year exams (he’s in the 2nd year of his degree) and various annual holidays that have been booked by our families. We also thought June might be one of the drier summer months (we hope!).
There are lots of things to consider when choosing your date. Try to include close relatives and friends in your decision too ‐ make sure they’ll all be able to turn up. Also, avoid busy times of the year, as they may need to help you with all kinds of chaotic, last minute plans.
Once we decided on our date, it was all systems go! We’ve made an appointment to see the verger of our local church, to book the ceremony.
