3 So far so good – Henrietta’s Wedding
So far so good ‐ we’ve had a really fun few days sorting out things for the wedding ‐ none of it stressful. At the beginning of the week we went to see the Vicar at the church near Mum and Paul’s house ‐ we had not met him before, nor I have to admit been to any of his services. So to start with he asked about our relationship, how we functioned as a couple, then why we want get married in a church and about what marriage meant to us.
Then he said he would be more than happy to marry us ‐ phew. Sitting there in front of Roy (the vicar) it suddenly dawned on me that this was it ‐ we were really getting married. Yes, there was a party to organise and dresses to think of but what it really meant is that RT and I were committing to each other for the rest of our lives.
There is no doubt in my mind that this is what I want, but I realised that in all the celebrations of getting engaged I hadn’t stopped to think of marriage literally. Now that I have, I’m even more excited, not just for the wedding but for the rest of our lives together. Roy and RT discussed music whilst I was indulging in “my moment”. RT is really keen to sort out the music himself so I’m not sure what we’ll end up with, but I am sure it’ll be lovely and he’ll put a lot of thought and love into it. Roy said he was happy for us to have whatever music we wanted ‐ we wouldn’t have to stick to just religious music (which until that night I didn’t know we might have to). Whatever we have I’m sure it will be music which means a lot to our relationship and us.
Mum and I went for our first look at dresses this weekend. We had so much fun. I’d left it too late to get us appointments in any of the big department stores, which is where I imagined we’d start. Instead I had a look on confetti for suppliers of dresses and found a number of shops near where we live ‐ never having been a bride I’d not noticed them before. It worked out brilliantly we were able to drive easily to the two shops we had appointments at, we could park outside and we got lots of attention from the sales assistants. The whole day was great, and lovely to spend real quality time with Mum totally indulging ourselves ‐ though I have to say some of the dresses were awful ‐ but at least everybody was very relaxed and we could laugh about it (at my expense!).
