We met… On a group holiday to Spain. We didn’t know each other, but were ‘ friends of friends’. So we first met at Gatwick airport in the bar!

First impressions of each other… We didn’t hit if off straight away, but after a few days into the holiday we started to get to know each other and the rest is history!

The proposal… Thankfully Simon proposed at home, I would have been so embarrassed at being asked somewhere public. He wasn’t impressed that I laughed at first, but of course I said YES straight away! He hid the ring at the bottom of a glass of champagne so it took a while to realise there was a ring as well.

What were your wedding theme/colours? Silver and cream.

How did Confetti help with your big day… I read lots of articles and bought all my decorative items from Confetti. It was great to have everything on one website to browse through and get some ideas.

Who were your bridesmaids/groomsmen… The Best Man was Simon’s friend Mark and the Groomsmen were Simon’s brothers – Jay, Paul and Jon, and my brothers Stuart and Gary as well as the Dads! My Bridesmaids were my cousin Angie, Sister Jade, and my friends Rowan and Donna.

We chose our venue because… I was looking for somewhere near to where we live and easy for our guests to get to. I wanted a city wedding but with some nice greenery and atmosphere, and Dyrham Park hit the spot. The venue was elegant without being too stuffy and we had the whole place to ourselves.

What was your dress like? My dress had one shoulder, fitted down to below the waist with mega ruffles on the skirt. I didn’t try on loads and loads of dresses. I think a good place to start is knowing what you don’t want – so I managed to filter out lots of dresses by just focusing ones with the fabric and style I wanted. The dress was beautiful and comfortable!

What was your ceremony like? The ceremony was fun but traditional. We had a female vicar who was great at lifting the mood – and a string quartet to add to the atmosphere in the church and at the reception. The church was beautiful in a lovely village type setting but still in London,  I am really glad we went down the traditional route.

What was your favourite part of the wedding? Probably our entrance to the wedding reception – the ceremony was over, we were finally married, the music was blaring and we were looking forward to eating, the speeches and getting the party started!

What was the song for the first dance? Al Green – Let’s Stay Together

What is your advice for other brides? If you can – get a Toastmaster, they will really help on the day with keeping things moving so you don’t have to worry about anything yourself. After spending so long planning the wedding you want to be able to enjoy it on the day and not have to think about any of the boring timekeeping stuff yourself. Also  I worried so much about making sure I spoke to my guests, of course you need to do the rounds,  but it’s a good idea to set a cut-off time when it’s time for you to start enjoying the party as well!
