I had been single for almost three years and was slowly giving up on finding my man.
But, one warm sunny morning on May Bank Holiday last year, I was standing at the side of the track at Silverstone when Adam spotted me! He couldn’t miss me really. I was wearing an orange all-in-one suit, big heavy boots, hair all scraped back under my baseball cap and a nose on the verge of being extremely sunburnt (we are both motor racing marshals, hence the orange).
After spending most of the day chatting – when we weren’t pulling cars out of gravel traps – and Adam buying me ice-cream, I took the lead and asked for his number. We had lots of long phone calls and texts over the next two weekends, and then we spent some rather special weekends together. I moved in in June and we were engaged in July.
We met at Silverstone in May, talked about getting married on the way home from the British Grand prix in July, and got engaged at the end of July in Spa, Belgium (where they hold the Belgium GP). We are getting married in October 2004 at Brands Hatch (for those of you who don’t know, or haven’t guessed yet – my home racing circuit in Kent).
So you could say we are speeding fast into the future but are on a world championship-winning track.
It can happen to us all.
