Becki and Rob’s Vintage Inspired Real Wedding
“Love isn’t finding someone you can live with, it’s finding someone you can’t live without.” A beautiful quote taken from this week’s real wedding and we can’t agree more. Thank you Jenny Martin photography for letting us share Becki and Robs stunning vintage themed wedding. The beautiful couple captured the era perfectly from Becki’s amazing wedding dress and accessories, to the gorgeous vintage decor at the reception. For our brides looking for vintage inspiration, this is the wedding for you.
Bride and Groom… Becki and Rob
Wedding date… Sunday 10th August 2014
We met… In Yates bar in Manchester Piccadilly. I was out with my mum celebrating her birthday in a group of woman aged between 20 to 50. Rob was there with a group of male friends celebrating his birthday (my mum and husbands birthdays are 3 days apart) The two groups began talking to each other and Rob and I just hit it off.
The proposal… Rob proposed to me, it was a huge surprise! We had arranged our sons christening, Rob gave a speech thanking everyone for attending and for their gifts and at the end of his speech he began to talk about a conversation we’d had previously about Bobby (our son) and Rob having a different surname to myself, he said he would like to rectify this and got down on one knee and proposed. I was in shock! It was a gorgeous diamond ring.
I knew he was ‘the one’… For me after 6 months, he just grew on me to the point I knew I didn’t want to be with anyone else but him.
Length of engagement... 2 years
How did Confetti.co.uk help in your big day? I got lots of ideas from Confetti.co.uk. Including table centre pieces, flowers, favours etc
The dress… I tried on dozens of dresses! I had an idea of a fitted lace dress in my head but didn’t think they looked right when I tried them on. I then went through a time of being completely undecided as to what I wanted, what suited me etc. I eventually found Natalie Ann Brides, a dress in a shop in Liverpool and thought it was “the one.” I ordered it , I had been looking at photos on my phone of me in my dress and I went off it completely and didn’t want it anymore. The shop were good and gave me decent discount on a second dress so I ended up with two dresses. I sold the first dress at quite a loss. I would say to any bride to be DON’T take pictures on your mobile phone, they are never going to look as good as you will on the day and it’s too easy to look at the picture over and over and find faults. I had not thought of a fishtail dress or the colour light gold but my mum and bridesmaid were browsing and found it, they asked me to try it on so I reluctantly did and I loved it! And yes my mum cried, she didn’t with the first one.
I wore a pearl necklace that I bought from a vintage fair in Manchester. My hair accessories were a bargain from New Look, they looked very vintage.
Our wedding photographer was… Jenny Martin photography. I met Jenny at the Event City wedding fair. I picked Jenny for three reasons, firstly her amazing ability to catch the moment in a photo. Secondly, I love the way her photography is unusual and a great range from pops of colour to the black and white and finally her down to earth attitude and friendliness, she has a knack of being there to get all the photos needed but not intrusive at all. Jenny was a pleasure to work with.
Our bridesmaids were… My two best friends and my half sister. Their dresses were full length satin with ivory lace around their waist.
Our wedding ceremony was… St. Michael and all Angels’ church in Ashton. We had 84 guests, and a simple Church of England service. The church is beautiful and has amazing stained glass windows. Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Rob waiting at the altar was so special. A funny memorable moment was when our son was getting a little bored and started making monster noises!
Our favourite part of the wedding was… Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing my best friend waiting for me at the altar.
Our wedding reception was at… The Mere court Hotel, in Knutsford. We went to look at a lot of venue’s and we decided on the one that just felt right for us, the Mere court has such a lovely intimate feel about it unlike most we looked at. Of course the price was a factor when deciding and they were offering some really good packages.
Our colour scheme was… Ivory, cream, beige, champagne, light brown and brown. My mum did our venue dressing, she made things very personal to me.
Did anything funny or unusual happen at your wedding? The best man forgot the rings! And had to go back home for them. My husband blurted out “I will” before the vicar had finished speaking making everyone in the congregation laugh. And my husband ended up wearing my wedding dress at 5am in the morning!
Our first dance was… Come away with me by Nora Jones
What is your advice for other brides? Shop around, don’t settle for the first quote and be prepared to barter!
Our honeymoon was… Two weeks in the almond beach resort in Barbados. We loved every minute of it. We would defiantly recommend Barbados
