Brett and Lynne-Anne’s Real Life Wedding

Brett and Lynne‐Anne

How did you meet?
I was very good friends with Brett’s ex-girlfriend. We used to go Ballroom Dancing together and he taught me to dance.

Describe the marriage proposal.
We in London on holiday. Brett had just arrived back from Canada (he went to take a look at Canada because we were going to emigrate there). He literally arrived from the airport to a family barbecue and he kept insisting we go for a walk. Eventually we went for a walk in some fields behind the house and in the long grass he proposed. He was even too afraid to put the ring on my finger in case he dropped it in the grass.

How long did you spend preparing for the day and how was it?
We spent two years preparing for our day because we had the wedding in South Africa and went to London to work. I planned everything from London and went back to SA four weeks before the wedding to do my dress and the final touches etc. The reason for the two years is that I jokingly told my bridesmaids that instead of carrying bouquets of flowers down the aisle – they should have babies and be carrying their babies instead. Needless to say two of the three bridesmaids fell pregnant (accidentally) and one had the baby on the day of the wedding. So we postponed by a year.

What type of wedding ceremony did you have and where?
We had a church wedding in Cape Town, South Africa

Where did you hold your reception and what was it like?
The reception was in a school hall. It was a buffet, evening reception with lots of dancing, eating and good fun.

Is there anything you’d change, with hindsight?
I would probably have picked a different Matron of Honour and included by best friend from school instead. She did my wedding video – which was fantastic – but it would have been nicer to have her as Matron of Honour.

What advice would you give to couples currently planning their wedding?
Don’t plan it from overseas!
