Claire and Adam Real Central Methodist Church, York Wedding Story
When was your wedding?
Wednesday 22nd July 2009
.
How and when did you meet?
In Primary school, aged 8, and first got to know each other on a residential trip a couple of years later.. After being a bit on‐and‐off, we finally got together age 14!
How old are you both?
22.
Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
At a fort in New Brighton ‐ I was taking a photo over the battlements, when I turned around he was down on one knee!
How did your groom help with the wedding planning?
He was really involved in all the decisions, everything except my dress/accessories was chosen and decided upon together.
Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?
Loads! Mainly for inspiration, and of course the wonderful forums.
Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it
It’s a Watters & Watters dress, 8046B. A slim, almost 1930’s style, delicate lace all over with a low back and spaghetti straps. I wore it with a chapel length veil, a pearl/diamante tiara and pearl necklace and earrings.
Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
2 bridesmaids ‐ my best friend from school and best friend from Uni. They wore dresses a similar shape to mine, but in sage green Nu Georgette.
Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?
His 4 best friends from school ‐ they all wore black suits with matching green ties/handkerchiefs and buttonholes.
Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?
Religious
Where did you hold your ceremony?
Central Methodist Church, York
Where did you hold your reception?
Merchant Adventurers Hall, York ‐ a 13th Century timbered hall.
Did you have any special wedding transport?
A horse and carriage to and from the reception ‐ it was incredible. It wasn’t particularly fancy, but it made me feel like a princess, and going through York city centre so many people were waving and congratulating us, it was lovely!
Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
Colour theme was ivory/sage green. We didn’t have a theme really, but tried to tie everything in, with rose/pearl motifs on all the invites/table decorations/menus/favours/place names etc.
Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?
All bouquets and centrepieces were ivory roses and gypsophila. Mine was a shower bouquet and the bridesmaids had hand tied posies. Additionally, the top table arrangement and 2 pedestals were just loads of ivory flowers with lots of greenery.
What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?
Our caterer was one approved by the venue (Bradshaws of York ‐ absolutely fantastic), and we had a cold carvery buffet.
What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?
The groom’s mother made our cake ‐ to her own design, because we couldn’t choose! It was 3 tiers, hexagonal, with lots of delicate ivory icing and lots of sugar‐icing roses on each tier. Instead of a topper was a little ‘open book’ with our names and the wedding date on.
Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?
Just a DJ in the evening.
Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?
Our honeymoon was a transatlantic voyage from Southampton to New York on the Queen Mary 2 (booked through Thompsons). It was incredible, just a fantastic experience!
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
All of it!!
Did you experience any “nightmare” moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?
Thankfully, not really.. We had some setbacks, but then things always turned out for the better.
Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?
Just make sure the wedding is what YOU want, don’t give in to any one else! I spent far too much time worrying what people would think, when all that matters is you and your fiance becoming husband and wife.
