Debbie and Scott’s Real Life Wedding
Debbie and Scott
February 2000
How did you meet?
Through my older brother who was our best man on the wedding day.
Describe the marriage proposal.
Scott had proposed many times, but I kept turning him down. Then one day, I just said yes. We were at home and he got on one knee and asked. I think I surprised him!
How long did you spend preparing for the day and how was it?
We spent one year preparing for it and it was well worth it.
What type of wedding ceremony did you have and where?
We had the ceremony in a wonderful huge old church right in the middle of Auckland City. We didn’t have any theme.
Where did you hold your reception and what was it like?
We had the reception at a new hotel, also located in the middle of Auckland City. The staff were fantastic and treated everyone well. We supplied a three-hour beverage package, which ended up being about four to five hours and we supplied cocktail food which was very tasty.
Thinking back to the ‘big day’ what things did you especially enjoy?
When I first walked in and saw Scott standing there, I didn’t want the moment to end.
Is there anything you’d change, with hindsight?
No – the day ran so smoothly, I don’t see the need to have changed anything.
What advice would you give to couples currently planning their wedding?
Get the date set and plan well ahead. It makes all the difference and nothing gets rushed that way. Another great thing we did was having dried flower arrangements – that way you can get them a good month before and there is no panic on the big day.
