Eleanor and Kevin’s Real Life Wedding
Eleanor and Kevin
29/07/2006 – Bunchrew House Hotel in Inverness
How and when did you meet?
We met whilst we were both at university – Kevin’s flatmate was my friend’s cousin so we met through them.
How old are you both?
I’m 24 and Kevin is 25.
Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
Kevin proposed to me after only four months of going out! We were on holiday in Tenerife and he proposed in a hot air balloon!
Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?
I had my hen night in Glasgow at the Curry Karaoke – great fun and great food! Kevin also had his stag in Glasgow, going out for a meal and then on to a few pubs.
How did your groom help with the wedding planning?
Kevin and I planned all of the wedding ourselves, calling on others where necessary! He was particularly useful with dealing with our venue, although he also arranged a surprise honeymoon to Jamaica too!
Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?
I used the chat forums a lot to ask questions, and also looked at the dress and venue search pages.
Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?
I bought cufflinks for the ushers and best man, and also my favour bags and chocolates. These were all bought online apart from the chocolate which was bought from the Glasgow store.
Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it
My dress was ‘Caramelo’ by San Patrick – I bought it brand new through the Internet, not only to save money but it wasn’t stocked in any shops local to me.
Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
My two sisters, Jennifer and Karen, were my bridesmaids. They wore beautiful burgundy dresses from House of Fraser.
Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?
Kevin chose his brother and my brother as his ushers, and his other brother as Best Man. They all wore kilts.
Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?
We had a civil ceremony.
Where did you hold your ceremony?
It was held at Bunchrew House Hotel in Inverness.
Where did you hold your reception?
The reception was also held at Bunchrew. The staff was wonderful at organising everything on the day.
Did you have any special wedding transport?
No.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?
We had around 80 guests to the day and further work colleague guests in the evening.
Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
Our theme was burgundy.
How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?
We had burgundy favours and petals scattered over the tables, plus dark red roses on every table.
Did you give your guests favours?
The female guests received burgundy chocolates in white organza bags, and sweets for the children.
Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?
We used Debenhams.
Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?
Our first night was spent at the hotel, our honeymoon was in Jamaica and was booked with Sandals. It was perfect.
Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?
My advice is that if any little things go wrong on the day, ignore them! Also take ‘time out’ with your new husband to appreciate your special day together.
