Emma and Richard’s Real Wedding
Emma and Richard
As we had such a wonderful day, I just had to write to tell you all about it, particularly as Confetti helped me with such a lot of the organisation and etiquette nightmares!
Our wedding day started much as everyone’s does, waking VERY early to take a trip to the hairdressers for bride, and in my case, one bridesmaid. When we arrived we felt that the day might be doomed, as the hairdresser had a flat tyre and would therefore be late for our appointment. Luckily, this ended up being only 15 minutes or so, so all things were back on track, apart from the weather!
The morning had looked dull and unpromising, and by mid morning (thankfully after we’d arrived back from the hairdressers) the heavens opened! It thundered and lightened and there I was, imagining all my lovely photos down the drain.
Richard and I were getting married at 2.30pm at York Register Office, so I knew that things COULD brighten up, in spite of the dull forecast.
The morning ran like clockwork, we dressed (thank God the dress fitted!), we did make up, and we had a laugh and a joke about times past. The gorgeous flowers arrived on time and the buttonholes were transported on to the boys in the next village, where they’d managed to grab a room for the night at a friend’s house.
Surprisingly enough, I wasn’t nervous at all when my dad finally walked me down the aisle at around 2.45pm. Richard, looking very fetching in his gold waistcoat and matching cravat, was shaking slightly and stuttered his words.
The funniest part of the whole day had to be when the Registrar asked if we would both like to continue. Having known all of Richard’s jokes beforehand, when he paused, looked at me, and said, ‘Oh, go on then!’ I was able to laugh like the rest of the guests!
The sun shone down gloriously for the photos, which meant all those lovely outdoor shots I’d strategically planned could go ahead. The bottle of champagne on the drive to the reception revived us and the speeches went down a treat, in spite of the best man being so nervous he could hardly eat!
We were entertained in the evening by a ‘top quality’ DJ, ate, drank and were very merry!!!
I couldn’t believe how well everything had gone, even though we’d been working to such a strict budget! I’d do it all again tomorrow, should the opportunity arise!
