Emma and Sam Real Engagement Story
On top of the Empire State building on February 14th – you’d have thought I would have known the score but this story is completely different.
Sam and I had been happily engaged for three years before we arranged our trip to New York in February 2000. Sam came up with the romantic idea of going up the Empire State building on Valentines Day and swapping presents, again still no idea as my engagement ring was still firmly on my finger! He said that we would only buy each other a ‘token’ gift, which he thoughtfully limited at £20 because, like he said, "It’s the thought that counts!"
So with presents carefully wrapped, we made our way to the top, to take in the wonderful views of Manhattan. A man next to me got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend and I commented with tears in my eyes how romantic it was. Sam handed my present to me. I unwrapped the outer paper and then started to open the white box that my pressie was in. To my complete and utter surprise Sam then took the box from me and opened it up, only to bring out a ring box. He got down on one knee and produced a gorgeous ring and proposed once again. Of course I accepted… again!
I was completely stunned but touched. It fitted beautifully and was the perfect ring that we couldn’t afford to buy first time around. I was somewhat embarrassed as I, for one, had stuck to the £20 limit and had to hand over a tie rack for Sam to unwrap… not quite the same!
We are getting married on the 30th august 2002 and the honeymoon is in San Francisco and Las Vegas, we may even keep the tradition going and go to the little white wedding chapel to get a second wedding!
