Gemielle and Phillip
09/10/2004 – Mendip House Hotel, Somerset
How and when did you meet?
We first met when we were living next door to each other. We then met again at the local pub and it all happened from there.
Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
We were camping in Wales in a place called Marloes. Phil proposed on the night that Mars was closest to earth last year.
Did you have hen and stag celebrations?
I went on a spa day with my mum and my sister and then met up in the evening with work friends and others for dinner and a few drinks. Phil played golf in the morning and snooker in the afternoon followed by a heavy drinking session.
Did your groom help you with the wedding planning?
He was really helpful in organising the things like the seating plan, sorting out people’s dietary needs and he wrote all the invites for the wedding and the evening reception.
Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?
We used Confetti to buy place cards, confetti for the tables, favour boxes, gold napkins and our guest book and photo album.
Do you have a confetti web page?
Not yet – we’re working on it!
Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?
We used the website.
Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it.
I wore a ivory dress with a daring ‘V. shape panel at the front. It was heavily beaded and detailed on the bodice and laced at the back with a detachable train.
Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
I had three bridesmaids – my sister and two friends. The two oldest bridesmaids wore lilac two-piece outfits and the flower girl wore the dress that matched my wedding dress. The lilac of the bridesmaids dresses matched the men’s cravats and handkerchiefs.
Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?
Phil chose his friend to be his best man and his nephew as page boy. They wore velvet dark blue jackets, purple waistcoats and grey trousers. The page boy wore the same but without the jacket.
Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?
We had a civil ceremony.
Where did you hold your ceremony?
The ceremony was at the Mendip House Hotel in Somerset.
Where did you hold your reception?
At the same place as our wedding ceremony.
Did you have any special wedding transport?
Yes – I had a Mercedes and the bridesmaids and my mum went in a Limo.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?
We had about 80 guests to the wedding and a further 80 to the evening reception.
Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
We kept all the colours the same throughout the whole day – purple (to match the dresses) and gold. We had purple and white flowers and the table confetti was purple and gold. We had gold insert napkins.
How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?
We used the gold napkins that were the insert to the ivory ones. We had floating candles on the table and these had purple stones in the bottom.
Did you give your guests favours?
Yes we did. The favour boxes were tied with gold ribbon and filled with purple sugared almonds. The children had ‘Love Hearts’.
Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?
I had calla lillies and roses and the bridesmaids had the same sort of things but scaled down and much smaller. My bouquet was a teardrop shape and the girls had posies.
What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?
The venue did the catering. We started with smoked mackerel and followed with roast beef. Pudding was a chocolate and fruit mousse – yummy!
What did you choose for your wedding cake?
My mum made our wedding cake and she tied the flowers in with my flowers so it all looked the same.
Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?
We had a disco in the evening.
Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?
No we didn’t. We asked people to contribute to our house fund as we are buying a house, or to donate money towards our honeymoon as we were away for three weeks.
Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?
We spent our first night as Mr & Mrs in the honeymoon suite in the hotel where we got married. We then flew to San Francisco and spent three weeks travelling the west side of the States. We organised the honeymoon ourselves.
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
All of it. It was so perfect I couldn’t really have a most memorable moment. My most favourite moments were marrying my husband and seeing his face when I walked in to the room.
Did you experience any ‘nightmare’ moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?
Nothing.
