Holly and Alec’s 1950s Vintage Wedding
On Christmas day in 2014, Alec sat down at his piano and began to play his and Holly’s song. Little did Holly know, that inside the piano hid the ring that she’d accept when Alec asked for her hand in marriage! Less than a year after she had said yes, the two married in an intimate ceremony in the grounds of Alec’s Grandparents home. From the wedding invitations to the dress and the vows, this trendy young couple did a wonderful job of creating a truly beautiful and unique 1950s vintage wedding!
The Ceremony & Reception
It was in a small marquee on family grounds, it was very personal as Alec’s friend, an actor, constructed the ceremony with a non-religious, slight comedic twist. There was a reading by my sister called ‘the lovely dinosaur’, a speech about love and marriage from Alec’s dad and our close friend Claudia sang ‘how long will I love you’ whilst we signed our register (a finger tree). We did all the decorations and flowers ourselves using bunting, gingham, babies breath and daises.
The Photographer
Our photographer was Chris Fossey. He was amazing and he had so many great ideas which really went with the vibe of our day.
The Food
We had a three course, sit down meal which was tomato and basil cheesecake, spinach & dolcelatte chicken and orange chocolate torte. In the evening we had a fish and chip van and sweets and popcorn. The cake was a naked Victoria sponge.
The Dress
My mum made my wedding dress which was a 1950’s style short lace dress with a big petticoat. I wore Irregular Choice’s Mr & Mrs shoes and accessorised with pearls and a bird cage veil. I did my own make up as I wanted to keep it natural and my sister and friend did my hair in a 50’s style.
The Bridesmaid’s
I had my sister and 4 best friends as bridesmaids and my mum also made their outfits which were pale green pencil dresses.
Our Favourite Parts
Having the wedding at Alec’s grandparents house made it so special. We made everything ourselves and even wrote our own vows for the ceremony and we loved the speeches as they were the only surprise on the day.
