Jemma and Steve Real Engagement Story
About two months before Christmas Steve and I were talking about what we were going to get each other as presents but he wouldn’t tell me what he was going to get. I jokingly asked if it was an engagement ring and he stayed silent, so I knew that’s what it was going to be. He said he had wanted it to be a surprise but was relieved as I could now help him to choose a ring.
We went ring shopping a couple of weeks later and I narrowed it down to three rings I loved but Steve said he was going to choose the final ring so at least some of it could be a surprise! It then got to Christmas Day but we were both very nervous as we weren’t ready to tell our parents. In my garden there is a hedge that has a bench hidden behind it, so we decided to go and sit down there!
To my surprise Steve asked me to close my eyes, then he placed an earphone in my ear and started playing one of my favourite songs ‘Save the best till last’ while at the same time reading out a poem he had written for me (which, he told me later, had taken him six months!). He then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I admit that I started crying when he was reading the poem but I smiled through my tears and said ‘yes’! He then kissed me and betrayed how calm he was when I felt his lip trembling! We stayed there for 20 minutes just hugging.
