Jess and Ryan married in Kent on Friday 10th April and had a gorgeous vintage tea party style reception with a Cadburys purple and pink colour scheme. Images by Lawless Rose Photography.
Proposal
We met in France whilst commemorating the 65th anniversary of D Day. He popped the question, on Christmas morning over a cup of tea in bed! I knew he was “the one” when he first said ‘I love you’. We were engaged for nearly 18 months.
Ceremony and Reception
The wedding ceremony was held at our local church, St Nicolas at Boughton Malherbe in Kent and was traditional and perfect. We held our wedding reception at our local pub in their hall -The White Horse at Sandway, Kent because we wanted to stay local & didn’t want a massive fuss.
Our wedding colours were pale pink and Cadbury purple. I had four bridesmaids – two adults & two children – one being our 10 month old daughter who walked down the aisle, and our groomsmen were Ollie and Alex.
Our photography was by Sarah Relf of Lawless Rose Photography – she offered a good package for a good price & takes relaxed, informal pictures. We didn’t want a photographer who likes to play around with overly posed or artsy pictures, we wanted someone who could stand back and capture the day for exactly as it was. She was lovely and the photos are fantastic.
My dress was a retro style halterneck white gown worn with Elsa style purple earrings and veil. Hair and makeup was by Zanna Brown at Cut Above did my hair & Amber did my make up.
Our wedding cake was a white, 3-tiered cake (fruit, chocolate sponge & victoria sponge) with roses down the side. The wedding flowers for bouquets and table centrepieces were crepe paper bouquets so that I could keep my flowers as a memento from the day. They were pale pink & purple roses. Our first dance was to Burning Love by Elvis Presley.
What Made Our Wedding Unique
What made our wedding special was our WC42 (1944) Dodge as a way of transporting guests from the church to the reception. If I had to choose my favourite part of the wedding then it would be the band, they were amazing! Nothing went wrong, it all went perfectly.
For our honeymoon we had a mini-moon to Normandy in France where we first met but we are driving Route 66 next year as our main honeymoon & taking our daughter with us. I’m sure it’s going to live up to all our expectations.
My Advice for Other Brides
My advice for other brides is to plan your day for you. I was so worried that people would compare our low budget wedding to others that cost twice as much & think negatively about it. Not one person said a bad thing about our day & everybody had a great time.
