Jo and Becci Real Engagement Story
About seven months before we got engaged, I unfortunately had a fairly massive breakup with my close group of friends. We’d been mates for over ten years and had gone through school and college together.
On the night that we decided to get married, we had been out on the town with Jon’s friends to celebrate a combined birthday. As always, Jon was drinking and I was driving. On the way home I started to think about how all ‘our’ friends were Jon’s friends from school and college and the only people that I had left were Jon and my best mate of 18 years. Jon could tell that I was upset about it and spent the journey telling me how wonderful I was and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me.
Once we got home, he was still going on about how our relationship was the best thing that had happened to him and how much he loved me… so I said to him (as was my way of saying "I love you") "Will you marry me one day?". His response to this was normally a nice smile and "maybe" .. but this time he looked at me and said "Yeah, alright then."
The next morning, I didn’t believe that he’d meant it, but he told me that he’d planned on buying me and engagement ring for my birthday and that he couldn’t believe that he’d let it slip.
I’ve never had the romantic proposal that everyone thinks that they’ll get, but it’ll be a great story to tell our children and grandchildren!
