Joanne and Stuart Real Engagement Story
My fiancé’s name is Stuart Bridson and we got engaged on Christmas Eve 1999. We were in the process of buying our first home together and should have moved into the house on the seventeenth of December, but this did not happen due to delays with our solicitors.
I had to work that Christmas Eve, while Stuart had finished work the day before and had gone out with his colleagues for a Christmas drink, which turned into about ten or twelve pints of lager…
I went to Stuart’s house after work at about 6 o’clock on Christmas Eve; Stuart was in the shower getting ready to go out with his parents and me.
His Mum asked me to take Stuart his boxer shorts, that had been in the dryer. I tutted in disgust (as I had been working all day and that I now had to run about for his mother and deliver boxer shorts to my hung over boyfriend!)
I went upstairs and threw them at the top of the landing; Stuart called for me and said I should go into his bedroom. I tutted again and walked into his room, Stuart was stood there with a towel around his waist, no shirt on, cotton buds sticking out of his ears and his hands behind his back… he then smiled at me and said that he was going to make me cry! I tutted again and said, ‘Stuart, hurry up and stop messing about!’ He then produced the most beautiful princess cut, diamond engagement ring! I immediately started to cry and put my hands over my face. Stuart’s parents then appeared and they were absolutely delighted. I was in complete shock and cried for about 3 days! I couldn’t eat or drink, which was great especially with all of the temptations around at Christmas time.
We then proceeded to arrange an engagement party, which we held on 21st January 2000. All our family and friends were there; we had a fantastic evening and received lots of beautiful presents. Stuart’s speech at the party started, ‘First of all I would like to thank Joanne for saying YES!’
We are now planning our wedding for 26th July 2003…. I cannot wait to marry Stuart!
