Karla and Matthew Real Engagement Story
Matt and I met in a very strange way. I was at college messing around in an IT course and decided to set up a profile with my friends on a dating website. I saw Matt’s picture and thought I would email him. After a few weeks of emailing each other we started to talk on the phone and then decided to meet up. My parents were not too happy as there was a six year age gap; at the time I was 17 and Matt was 23. Our first date was great – Matt was a true gentleman and even held the doors open for me! I remember us walking towards a lift and me saying that I couldn’t go in it as I hate lifts and him saying, "Would it help if I held your hand?" He tells me now that he was testing out the water.
Anyway as time went on, we got very close. About a month into our relationship he turned around and said to me: "I think I am falling in love with you," and my heart just melted as I knew I felt the same way. After about a year and a half we decided to move in together and we’ve now been living together for a year.
Matt proposed to me on 11 Feb 2003. He took me out for a drive, which I thought was strange as it was at night. We arrived at a viewpoint where we live – it’s gorgeous, looks over the whole of Portsmouth and is beautiful at night. Matt got out a rug from the back of the car and a bottle of champagne and laid it down on the grass. We then laid down and he looked into my eyes and said "I love you will all of my heart and want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?" My eyes just filled up and I said yes. I couldn’t believe it. It was the best night of my life.
