Lindsay and Jamie’s Real Wedding Story

Lindsay and Jamie

How and when did you meet?
A couple of years ago, I worked in a petrol station. One day, I noticed an attractive customer walk in and mentioned to a colleague that I thought he was cute. Weirdly, it turned out that she knew him! his name was Jamie, and she gave me his telephone number. So three weeks later I finally plucked up the courage to call him and ask him out!

Where, when and how did he propose?
Just ten weeks after our first date, at a New Years party, Jamie proposed! He had waited and waited until everyone had finally gone home or to bed before getting down on one knee to pop the question! It was very, very emotional.

When did you start planning?
We were so excited that we had booked both the church and the reception venue 16 months before the big day and I chose my dress 13 months beforehand!!! Even the flowers were chosen a year before! We didn’t rush things, and so we never got stressed throughout the whole planning process, and consequently everything went perfectly according to plan.

Well, almost everything, until on the morning of the wedding when Jamie couldn’t find the 7 ties for the dads, brothers, best man & ushers!! Mercifully, he eventually found them hanging up in the spare room (after turning the whole place upside down!).

Where did you get married?
We got married in Norwich at St Catherine’s Church, which is situated near my parents’ home, together with 138 family and friends. The church was really special to me…as a child we would always perform our school carol concerts there, and I have always said “When I get older I’m going to get married in that church.”

Did you have bridesmaids and page boys?
I chose Jamie’s sister and his cousins’ little girl to be my bridesmaids, and my friend was my matron of honour – I was her bridesmaid 17 years ago! Jamie’s brother and my nephew were pageboys.

My father proudly walked me down the aisle, while Jamie waited at the altar with his best man – an old school friend. Whilst we signed the register, my best friend sang ‘From This Moment’ which brought tears to many people’s eyes!

Tell us about your reception
We had a Rolls Royce to chauffer us to our reception at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Norwich. Here, we had a sit down buffet for our guests. After the speeches Jamie’s cousin Emma read out a poem she had written, which described many of Jamie’s ‘cousinly crimes!’ It was very funny and moving. A further 70 guests then arrived for the evening reception, during which we had disco and karaoke. Our first dance was to “Amazed” by Lonestar.

Is there anything you would have done differently?
We have both said, looking back, that there wasn’t a single thing that we would have changed. It was just perfect.

What advice would you give to other brides?
If I could pass on any tips, it would be to listen to people’s advice but remember it’s your day. Everything we did on our day was for us, and was exactly how we wanted it. One last special surprise for us was when finding out that our wedding picture was due to appear in our local paper on the Wedding Album page. Then the paper called to say we had been chosen as wedding of the week, so our story also appeared!
